business advisory council

Overview

The Gulf of America Alliance (GOAA) is a partnership network dedicated to enhancing the environmental and economic health of the Gulf. We focus on priorities shared among the five Gulf states that benefit from a regional approach and build partnerships to address issues in ways that a single entity cannot.

Business and industry involvement in the Alliance plays a vital role in the collaborative process, strengthens our shared sense of stewardship of the Gulf and its resources, and ensures that diverse perspectives are included in decision-making. Our private-sector partners engage in a variety of ways, including involvement in Priority Issue Teams, the Gulf Star Program, and the Business Advisory Council.

Established in 2012, the Alliance’s Business Advisory Council (BAC) provides advice and essential insight, helping to foster open and honest dialogue needed to achieve and sustain a healthy Gulf ecosystem.

The BAC includes representatives from key industries operating in and around the Gulf region including:

  • tourism
  • oil and gas
  • manufacturing
  • utilities/energy
  • transportation
  • agriculture
  • commercial and recreational fishing
  • seafood processing
  • environmental contractors
  • architecture, engineering, and environmental consultants

Membership Benefits

While there are many ways for business partners to engage with the Alliance, becoming a member of the BAC provides unique opportunities to:

  • build your network,
  • participate in BAC member-only events,
  • stay informed on key priority issues,
  • engage with decision-makers, and
  • contribute to efforts that make a positive change in the region.

In supporting the BAC, the Alliance hosts several member-only events per year, including four quarterly, virtual forums and an annual in-person luncheon and field trip.

The virtual events feature timely topics pertaining to state and federal agency initiatives, projects that address the priorities in our Governors’ Action Plan, and emerging themes relevant to business and industries operating in the region. The in-person luncheon and field trip provides a unique opportunity to connect with industry leaders and access to network with coastal decision-makers while seeing on-the-ground efforts to improve our region’s environmental and economic resilience.

GOAA is also committed to promoting the BAC throughout our network, including the companies and individuals who are members.

Membership Levels and Requirements

General Membership

free; members receive invitation to quarterly virtual meetings for all members of your organization; listing in the BAC membership directory on the Alliance website

Wavemakers Circle

contributes $1,000 per year, which goes directly to support priority projects in the region; invitation to annual BAC in-person luncheon and field trip for two members of your organization, logo included with your listing on the Alliance website, and mention in two social media posts per year promoting the BAC

Members of the BAC are expected to assist GOAA in: 1) achieving our mission of healthy ecosystems and coastal economies and 2) identifying emerging or critical issues involving Gulf resources.

Members are required to attend at least three virtual meetings per year to keep their active status.

In applying for BAC membership, you are agreeing to the specific responsibilities of BAC membership if you are selected. As part of the selection process, please note that GOAA will require a potential conflict of interest form.

BAC members must be 18 years of age or older. The complexity of the issues addressed by GOAA and the BAC, the ability to effectively network with industry constituents, and the ability to travel to and attend meetings all necessitate this minimum age limit. Before applying for membership on the GOAA Business Advisory Council, please review GOAA’s mission and priorities.
