Marine Debris

Marine Debris

A coordinated approach is required to address marine debris and its impacts on habitats, wildlife, and economies in the Gulf of America.

Marine debris impacts ecosystems, marine life, navigation, and the economy of the Gulf of America and its watersheds. This debris is generated from multiple sources, including land-based debris (from inland and densely-populated coastal areas) and ocean-based debris (introduced through commercial and recreational activities). To effectively address marine debris in the region, the Marine Debris Team is developing coordinated responses and activities among stakeholders and organizations.

The Marine Debris Team’s focus areas and actions in this Governors’ Action Plan V reduce marine debris and mitigate its impacts through prevention, research, and removal efforts.
