Wildlife & Fisheries Team
Wildlife & Fisheries Team
The Gulf of America provides one third of the nation’s seafood sustaining both commercial and recreational fisheries for shrimp, red snapper, oysters, crabs, and menhaden. The Gulf is also home to over 16,000 species of marine and coastal wildlife including marine mammals, sea turtles, and over 400 species of birds. The Wildlife and Fisheries Team provides tools and information that support decision-making for wildlife management, productive recreational fisheries, competitive commercial fisheries, and emerging areas of interest such as aquaculture.
The Wildlife and Fisheries Team’s focus areas and actions in this Governors’ Action Plan V emphasize assessing status and trends; identifying threats, and needs of priority wildlife species; and collaboration with other Alliance Teams to enhance ecological resilience.
